Who is Who at SHE Group

 

Alan Houghton - MIOSH, AMISTR Specialist Services Director
Having worked as a research scientist on polymer chemistry and biological sciences, Alan became an S, H & E professional back in 1982. He has a broad experience of S, H & E issues, particularly those arising out of activities in research laboratories and a major office complex. Alan’s role tends to be more directed towards the strategic aspects of S, H & E management such as policy, improvement planning and auditing.

 

Helen Schoelzel - CMIOSH, MISTR, SHE Consultant and Team Leader
Helen has 11 years experience as a S, H & E Adviser, having a wealth of experience in providing professional services across a wide cross section of industry in the UK, including laboratories, production and manufacturing plants, food industry, workshops and offices. Helen has particular expertise in conducting Health and Safety Audits, developing and implementing SHE Management systems, undertaking COSHH assessments, advising on fume cupboard safety and completing noise surveys, as well as developing and delivery of bespoke health and safety training, especially behavioural safety.

 

Greg Watson - CMIOSH, MISTR & S, H & E Consultant
Before joining SHE Group in 1997, Greg spent 10 years as an analytical chemist on a major chemical manufacturing site. During this time he served as a Trade Union Accredited Safety Representative. Greg has experience of the management of S,H & E in offices, laboratories and production environments, including chemical plant and warehousing, and has expertise in fire safety management, accident investigation, manual handling and risk assessment.

 

Neil Lomas - MIOSH & S, H & E Consultant
Neil joined ICI in 1964 as a process operator on their large scale plants in the NW of England. He became a shift manager of a large major hazard complex before becoming a QA manager securing ISO 9000 registration for two organic production plants. When ICI split into two companies he took on the role of S, H & E manager alonside his QA responsibilities. He has managed S, H & E on large scale plants,research establishments and office complexes throughout the UK and in the USA. His practical approach to S, H & E is based on a blend of common sense and life skills.

 

Peter Littlemore - SHE Marketing and Sales Manager
Having started his working life in retail sales, Peter then spent some time in the support services area before finally taking on a safety/security role at ICI C&P Ltd's Headquarters at The Heath in Runcorn. Peter's background and personal skills have equipped him ideally for his current role in the marketing and sales of SOG's S, H & E services.

 

Sue McPherson - Customer Co-ordinator & DSE Assessor trainer
Sue is the mainstay of the team and is usually the first point of contact for our customers. Her role also involves the management and co-ordination of the SHE Group processes and systems, a key aspect being the arrangement of training events, etc, and the management of team members diaries to ensure the highest level of customer service. Sue also works closely with the SHE Marketing and Sales Manager in the planning of customer visits, promotional events and the production of relevant publicity literature. Sue holds a Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service and is also a ROSPA Qualified DSE Assessor trainer.

 

Gary Tiernan - MIIRSM, Dip SM, MIOSH, MBIFM - S,H & E Manager
Gary joined ICI in 1972 and worked as an electrical technician on large scale plants and as a member of new plant installation/start up teams at Huddersfield Works. He later became Site IT Controller, playing a key part in obtaining ISO 9000 registration for ICI C&TS Group at the development and implementation stages, and later as a Quality lead auditor. In 1995 he moved up to a position as Facilities Manager/ SHE Advisor for the Zeneca International Regions Computer Centre C&TS Group, later developing into a full SHE Advisor role for C&TS Europe. In 1997 he became SHE and Security Manager at Zeneca Specialties HQ and R&D Site located in Manchester. His approach to S, H & E is based on a blend of common sense and a broad experience of operating at various levels.

SHE Group also work with a number of Associates who are safety professionals in their own right and are able to provide extra resource when required or specific skills/support in specialist areas.

 

Clive Waring - MCMI, MIRTE, S.H.& E Consultant, SHE Group Associate
Clive served an engineering apprenticeship with ICI and worked in the Research Department and various chemical plants on major hazard sites. He moved on to work on a wide range of transport vehicles and became the Transport Operating and Maintenance Manager. He spent some years managing the Central Maintenance Group, maintaining the chemical production plants and was also a Project Manager for a number of major projects. He moved on to the Contracts Section where he worked closely with Contractors to develop their systems and improve their SHE performance. He has valuable experience in a wide variety of SHE training, auditing, procedure development and is involved with all aspects of CDM work. He holds a Diploma in Management (NVQ5) and maintains full membership of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers and is a H&S Consultant.

 

Julie Postlethwaite - SHE Group Associate
Julie joined the Team in 2004 having been a Health & Safety Officer for 20 years, within the Banking Industry and has vast experience in delivering training courses. Julie also specialises in developing & mentoring new trainers in the team.

 

Harry McGowan - SHE Group Associate
Served 23 years in the automotive industry where he served as a T.U.C H & S rep before taking up full time training. Harry joined SHE Group in April 2005 where he now specialises in behavioural safety.

 

Geoff Dickinson - SHE Group Associate
Geoff has over 30 years broad experience covering process development, process management, safety and environmental issues. His particular skills are safety management and risk analysis skills relevant to most manufacturing industries and particularly to chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, nuclear or utility industries. He is a trained and experienced HAZOP leader and is familiar with major hazards, COMAH, safety cases, ALARP and QRA. He is also a trained and certificated auditor having carried out a number of audits to assess regulatory compliance and is familiar with environmental issues, MATTEs and IPC/IPPC.

 

Russell Slack - Associate Trainer: Chartered FCIPD, FCMI, MIIRSM, LCGI.
Russell has forty years practical experience in Health and Safety / Human Resource and Training management with a proven record in the implementation of innovative policies, organisational change and best practice solutions primarily within the Manufacturing Sector but has experience in Construction, General Retail, Transport, Catering & Hospitality, Education, Local Government and Property Management sectors. He has operated locally, nationally and internationally. He is a member of a number of working groups in both the UK and Ireland promoting H&S and Environmental issues
